MILITARY CAMOUFLAGE: THE NIGERIAN EXPERIENCE

MILITARY CAMOUFLAGE: THE NIGERIAN EXPERIENCE

By Zwandien Bobai (October 30, 2016)

The "camouflage" is a known military attire. This is not only a Nigerian matter. It is used by many Armed Forces around the globe. It is used in Europe, United States, Asia and other Continents. Over the years, it has been known and regarded as an insignia within military administrations. Recall that military personnel will always pursue and punished (particularly in my village) anyone caught putting on their symbol of authority and power.

In such "fear" and "respect" of the Nigerian Military Camouflage, natives have decided to keep off. Unfortunately, instead of maintaining such "integrity," such a quality has vanished. Today, if I see a man in such attire, I see a traitor, an enemy and one unworthy of "respect" against the "conventional" idea of a man of great authority and one in whose arm, I can find refuge. Whenever I see a man dressed in camouflage, I start running. Our people say, "When a man sees a snake in the daytime, he runs in the night at the sight of a robe."

Recall the recent massacre of our brothers and sisters in the southern part of Kaduna State, Nigeria. As one whose mother witnessed the massacre particularly in Godogodo, I submit that ALL the "killers" have come dressed in the Military Camouflage. This is unfortunate! The killers of my family members were spotted in such attire!

Why should "assassins" not copy any other "uniform?" Why can't such "groups" copy the Nigeria Police? I'm just thinking! Why should the members of the Military personnel first disarm villagers and run away in the face of "attackers?" I will propose that villagers are allowed to guard their villages rather than allow some accompliceship to continue unabated by the so-called "appropriate authorities." Local Vigilante Groups and their UNIFORMS have better respect nowadays! We fear and regard them!

Why should there be "curfews " only when some "other" places are under siege? Why should such actions not be taken every where? Just thinking! If our PEOPLE are not going to talk, their FAMILIES shall be the next victims! When they are done with us (the poor), they will pursue the bourgeoisie!

This is our CONSOLATION: We have the Mighty Man in Battle! He will fight on behalf of His own! He has no CAMOUFLAGE, but maintains His INTEGRITY. He should be FEARED! Yahweh reigns!

DISCLAIMER: I woke up this morning and thought about our brethren who were massacred in the recent attacks in Godogodo and its environs. I'm not sure these thoughts are sensible! Only you, I mean you, can fathom!
