 OUR HYPOCRISY IN NIGERIA STINKS!

It is normative (obviously) in modern Nigeria to kill people on some slippery grounds of "religious blasphemy!" Whatever this means is a subject for another day. They have killed many innocent people (Christians) on such blasphemous grounds in this country. That of Deborah Emmanuel (12 May 2022) in Sokoto State, Nigeria, is not the first and it may not be the last until Nigerians start thinking with their heads and straight! Anytime such barbarism takes place we get united, Christians, Muslims and everyone to condemn the unfortunate situation.  Often times, we demonstrate our anger through speeches and letters! We set Social Media awash with such outburst. Sadly, nothing happens afterwards! That is the trend! We wait for the next victim to be announced!

In a country where humanity is something to celebrate and something worthwhile, why should such dastardly acts be celebrated? Why should perpetrators of such EVIL be in such agog? Why should they go unpunished even if their governors or leaders are atheists? Have our laws as a country and people become this weak or these things happen merely as collusion? If not, why won't government agencies probe such happenings? Why won't religious bodies of conscience investigate and follow the matter to the latter? Why can't Christian Associations or even Muslim Associations who do not believe this EVIL intervene? Why can't Christian Lawyers or the judiciary as a whole take up such matters?

The fact that this sad event took place in the seat of Islam in Nigeria, Sokoto State is most unfortunate. The Sarkin Musulmi is there and this is happening under his nose. The Sultan, Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar CFR, should demonstrate to us all that this isn't Islam by ensuring that justice is done on this matter. The Presidential hopeful and Governor of Sokoto State, HE Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, should intervene. Their handling of this case is going to be definitive of their persons and religious beliefs! Let this matter not be swept under the carpet. Let it not die a natural death like the other cases.

Have we lost our moral conscience to that extent as a people? Has religion in Nigeria become this delictuous? How would we say we are religious when we do not even believe in human dignity? Which God/god will ever be happy to see us killing our fellas? As diverse as our religions are, so is our hatred for one another!? We pretend to be one united people; but we are not! We condemn evil in public but celebrate the same in our closet!

We maybe having the best laws in the world; but we do not apply those in such dire situations as we now have in Nigeria. Ours is obviously selective justice and the poor class in Nigeria is always at the receiving end.

This is why I believe our HYPOCRISY STINKS!

  1. It is unfortunate that things are going on this way in our dear country Nigeria. Religious differentiation, extremism and fanatism has a long history, and for the Nigerian experience, it falls with the continuity of those agents of darkness who have given themselves to be use by the devil. I pray that this writing will fall in the right place

  2. It is quite unfortunate that our voices seems hushed. We have been muffled in several ways. I pray for God's intervention on dear country.
May this piece reach the right channel.

  3. It is quiet unfortunate that our country has been bedevil with Soo many Barbarians who knows nothing, rather than carrying out evils on a daily basis and those at the top aware of such act but nothing seems to be done. I pray your voice will be crossline to the right channel.
