 WHAT IS WRONG WITH SAYING "I LOVE YOU" IN CHURCH?


Like it is conventional among Nigerian Christians, Happy Sunday!


While worship service was on today (September 4, 2022), the pastor asked the congregants to turn to those around them and say audibly, I LOVE YOU AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT! Many people obliged! The atmosphere became noisy thereby turning the assembly into something like a mere jamboree.  But I could not carry out the pastor's instruction! I know you wish to know why!?


To my left was seated this young and beautiful damsel (I believe she is unmarried!) If I turn to her with the words, I LOVE YOU AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT like the pastor commanded, what do you think would be going through her/my mind at that time? Your guess is as good as mine! But, please, forgive my frankness and honesty here!


Today, even if a man says that to another man or a woman is saying same to another woman, we would not be sure they are carrying the conventional meaning. This is because of the ever increasing tendencies for homosexuality in the our world, even the world or wall of the Church. Like you must have observed today, such worldviews are pervasive in the Church organisation too.


You would recall that our world is bad that many of those words like LOVE no longer echo the same conventional message they should carry. In the Church today, many people misconstrue that as well! I would be very careful to carry out such instructions in Church today or in the future because of the rotten state of our collective morality!
