 MARTYRDOM MULTIPLIES US! By Zwandien Bobai Even the threat of martyrdom cannot succeed in wiping out Christian HOPE. It has never been one of the greater threats to the church's survival! Our father of old, TERTULLIAN of North Africa once wrote to persecutors of Christians in the third century: "You achieve nothing by your ever more refined techniques of cruelty; they become simply the bait that entices people to the church. As often as you mow us down, we multiple; THE BLOOD OF THE MARTYRS IS THE SEED OF THE CHURCH." Interestingly, the church still stands today despite the many attempts by Pharaohs and Emperors of old to sink it! They still exist today bearing many names around the world including Nigeria. I did not by this reflection seek to  desecrate it, but I seek to appropriate its biblical meaning in order to connect its biblical significance directly to our Christian civil responsibilities.  I've to also say that I don't usually involve myself in the impersonal online Christian debates, unless the issue at hand is crucial to the existential survival or pertains to  our corporate Christian responsibility to God and humanity.
